Lenten Retreat 2025 - The Seven Last Words of Jesus from the Cross March 11, 2025
This retreat offers faculty and staff an opportunity to reflect on and learn from the Seven Last Words [sayings] uttered by Jesus as he hung on the cross on Good Friday. The last seven sayings, gathered from the four Gospels, invite us to hear Jesus speak to his mother, his friends, those responsible for his death, a thief, and through prayer we explore the themes relevant to us, today -those of Forgiveness, Salvation, Relationship, Distress, Abandonment, Triumph, and Reunion. In addition, the Seven Last Words also demonstrate Jesus’ fulfillment of the promises made by God to his people throughout Salvation History. Exploring the complexity of Jesus' identity as fully human and fully divine, we encounter the real, intentional, personal, merciful love of Jesus, and enter into prayer more deeply in the season of Lent.
