Description of Faculty Retreat
Catholic Social Teaching/ Morality
The Encyclical Fratelli Tutti, written by Pope Francis, aims to promote a universal aspiration toward fraternity and social friendship. All human beings are called for a love with an openness of heart that transcends the differences of origin, nationality, race, culture or religion..., and allows to acknowledge, appreciate and embrace every man and woman. This is exactly what the Catholic Social Teaching requires of all human beings.
While Pope Francis was writing this letter the Covid-19 pandemic unexpectedly erupted. He earnestly addressed the world saying: “ No one can face life in isolation…” so “we need a single human family, as children of the same earth” to conquer the difficulties and build up the world as brothers and sisters. This is a moral obligation for all of us and we will impart these values to our students.
In the Encyclical the Pope invites each one of us to encounter Jesus as the Samaritan woman did (Jn 4:9), learn and care for a stranger as the Good Samaritan (Lk 10:25-37), promote the moral good and kindness which are the fruits of the Holy Spirit (cf. Gal 5:22), create paths of peace, treasure the value of forgiveness, and practice Religions at the service of fraternity, so that we can remain in God’s love as Jesus says “abide in me as I in you” (Jn 15:4). This is what Jesus taught and this is what the Church continues to teach us.
